Mascara and “Behind Her Eyes”

What kind of mascara do you use?  Do you always buy the same kind, or do you mix it up and try new ones?  I used to always get Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real ($23.45).  I liked it, but it seemed to dry out really quickly and then get crumbly weird.  Then I moved on to Christian Dior Addict It ($27.50 normally, but it’s on sale for $21.50 right now) and their volumizing primer, Christian Dior Diorshow Plumping Lash Primer ($29.50 normally, but it’s on sale for $20.99).  Game changer people, if you don’t use a primer, start today, or tomorrow, or whenever you wear makeup next.  But then the Dior mascara just didn’t seem to be the same, and I heard rumors at Sephora (yeah, I just said that) about the formula changing, so I again, moved along.  I do, however, still love the primer.

There was a fun trial size set from Sephora of their 5 best selling mascaras, and then you got a coupon for a free full size tube of your favorite one.  That’s when I found Marc Jacobs Noir ($26).  It’s a solid 10.  I also got tarteist Lash Paint Mascara by Tarte ($24) and Too Faced Better Than Sex  ($34 normally, but on sale for $24.50), and they’re solid 9 1/2s.  The other two “bestselling” mascaras were They’re Real (been there, done that) and one from Lancome that was garbage.

I wanted to try a drug store brand one to compare, to see if it really is worth spending the extra money on the 3 listed above.  L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise (8.99 normally, right now on sale for $5.09) seemed to be most people’s favorite one, so that’s what I tried.   And here is the visual comparison.  From top to bottom: Marc Jacobs, Better than Sex, Tartiest, and Lash Paradise.

I mean they all look good, but if we’re going to split hairs and treat lashes with the importance they deserve, the top 3 are just better.  The top 3 are also better at staying on without getting the weird black dots smudged around my eyes by the end of the day.  Rating for Lash Paradise would be a 7.

Behind Her Eyes is a really good book and I for sure had trouble putting it down, pretty much right from the start.  I read it in 2 days.  I need to switch up my books a little because lately, they have all been about crazy people, mostly crazy women.  I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars (how dare I use two different rating systems in the same post, sorry!).  If you’ve read it, basically she had me until the second door.  Then it just didn’t work for me.  Should you read this book?  Yes!  I would love to know what you think when you’re done.  And if you’ve already read it, tell me now! 🙂
