March BoxyCharm vs. Ipsy

BoxyCharm and Ipsy are both subscription makeup boxes.  Both run on a monthly basis, without the option to skip months.  BoxyCharm is $20ish and Ipsy is $10ish.  Let’s compare their March boxes!

BoxyCharm’s jam is full size products.  You will get 4-5 products, and they always total way more than $20 in actual retail value.  In March’s box:

  1. PUR The Complexion Authority Eyeshadow Palette $36
  2. butter LONDON Double Decker Lashes Mascara $20
  3. South Mane Beauty Under Eye Gels $10
  4. The Vintage Cosmetic Company Smokey Eye Brush Set $32.41
  5. Pretty Vulgar Make Them Blush $26

$125 worth of products!!!  I really like each of the products too.  The eyeshadow palette is beautiful.  The mascara is really good.  The under eye gels feel amazing.  I haven’t used the smokey eye brush set because I haven’t gotten that fancy since I got the box, but they look fun and easy to use.  And the shade of the blush is gorgeous.

Sometimes, Ipsy sends full size products mixed in with the samples, but this time, all five were sample sized.  There’s not a monetary value for samples.

  1. Furless Loose Eyeshadow Pigment
  2. Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom
  3. Twila True Renewal Oil
  4. Aurora Lipgloss 10 Fairy
  5. Tarte Sex Kitten Eyeliner

Loose eye shadow makes me nervous, both applying it and the possible spilling of it.  The Glossier Balm smells amazing and is SUPER moisturizing.  LOVE IT.  The Renewal Oil is also awesome for hydration.  I wouldn’t use it on my face, though, because it’s too scented and I don’t trust all the things on my face.  The lipgloss is a very pretty color.  And you cannot go wrong with an eyeliner from Tarte, right??

Which box is better?  I think it’s pretty obvi that BoxyCharm is the winner, right??  The only problemo with BoxyCharm is the accumulation of so many full sized items.  Where in the world are you going to put all of the things?  If you are working to build a makeup collection, it’s perfect.  If you have tons of space, it’s for you.  Ipsy is nice in the sense that you are trying out products, and don’t have the commitment of the full size to use and store until its gone.  As long as ipsy is sending good brands and products to try out, I think it’s worth the money.  The main issue, though, is getting creative for what to do with all the makeup bags you get each month!

March marked the end of my 3 month subscription with BoxyCharm, so I had to decide what to do.  For now, I am putting my subscription on hold.  I want to try out different boxes to see what they have to offer.  I will more than likely come back to them soon.  I already have FOMO for the April box.  My Ipsy subscription is annual, and not near the point of needing a decision.

So keep your eyes out for a review of my latest subscription box addition, Julep.  I think I will be getting my first box next month.  I already got a free nail polish set from them, and I LOVE IT.
