Summer, come quickly!

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope you had a great weekend; we sure did!!  We went on our first camping trip of the year.  Since school is still in session here, we stayed close at Birch Bay State Park.  It’s a beautiful park in the very NW of Washington.  We have gone there plenty of times during the day to play at the beach or have hot dog roasts, but had never stayed overnight at the campground.  We scoped out the spots before booking because our camper is large and in charge.  The loop closer to the water, (which is winning already!) has large pull through spots.  Backing up a trailer, or having to be the one directing the precarious feeling operation, is not super fun.  So if you have a choice, always pick a pull through site.  These first two pics are both from our campsite.  There are a lot of trees for privacy from the other campsites, and also a really good canopy above.  It sprinkled a few times, and we didn’t even feel it, until it really started raining on Sunday, but we were leaving anyway, so NBD.

The weather on Saturday was perfect.  The sun was out most of the day.  There’s a really good playground a few minutes from our campsite, down by the beach.  We went out to the beach at low tide, and the kids had so much fun collecting little crabs from the tide pools and playing in the sand.  Sunset is SO LATE here at this time of the year.  The kids were super excited to play with glow sticks, but had to wait until after 9 for it to be dark enough.  So while waiting, we went back to the beach to watch the sunset.

How cute is Annalee?  I love it when she actually asks to have her picture taken!

So that’s a bit from the weekend, but if you caught last week’s MM, you might be curious how the potty alarm drama is going.  If you missed last week’s: Momming Monday’s.

We stuck with the madness.  Tears from most have been shed.  But we are making progress.  The girls are waking up dry, but sometimes having an accident in the middle of the night.  Tom figured out how to make the alarms just vibrate, instead of vibrating and sounding like a car is being stolen.  That made the whole ordeal a lot less terrifying.

For camping, we bought diapers.  Two thought processes in that decision.  One, their beds in the camper don’t have plastic sheets and we don’t want to forever make it smell like a public restroom.  And two, in such an enclosed space, those alarms would have been intense for all and we just wanted a relaxing weekend.  After the week with those alarms, we all needed it.  They both woke up either dry or practically dry, so hallelujah!!

All of our activities are (finally!) starting to wrap up for the year. Gryphin’s youth group already had their last meeting.  Annalee has her closing ceremony for Girl Scouts tonight.  Dance class just finished, and it’s just rehearsal and performances that will wrap up next week.  The last day school is on the 15th for our district, and I am so excited to not have to wake my kids up at 6:30 anymore.

How are is end-of-the-school year you holding up?  I personally am a little annoyed at beginning-of-the-year Carla for being so ambitious with activities…

  1. What a wonderful blog you have! I am excited for the summer. My baby girl (3 years old) isn’t in school yet but I was still looking forward to the evenings we can sit out side and relax with a nice cool breeze.
