“Nine Perfect Strangers”

Nine Perfect Strangers is a bit slow in the beginning, but totally worth sticking with for what’s to come. I give it 3.5/4 stars because once it gets going, it was really hard to put down.  The characters were all very well developed and the storyline is unique.  If you have not read Liane Moriarty before, I recommend her two better books Big Little Lies and The Husband’s Secret.  I personally like her books more than I would otherwise because they are set in Australia.

Liane Moriarty 💯 writes chick lit. One of the characters in Nine Perfect Strangers, Frances writes romance novels.  Frances is criticized by a reviewer for being predictable and “misogynistic airport trash.” While the latter is totally not true for Moriarty, I wondered if she believes herself to not be predictable. While she is not totally unsurprising, her genre tends to be. The man and woman who initially rub each other the wrong way, yep, they’re probably getting married. Chick lit readers want a nicely buttoned up happy-ish ending. It’s not Hallmark Christmas movie level entertainment, but has hints of it.

That said, there were many elements to this book I did not see coming. If guests arriving at a health spa seems a bit slow to you too, for sure keep reading. It gets CRAZY!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that 2019 will be a great year for you!
